Poem: "So Much More"

I smile as I hang up the phone.
     I love speaking with you.
I love catching up with you.
I love just listening to the sound of your voice,
     Your warm laugh,
     he smile I can hear.
Even the silences are precious.

But there's always so much more I want to say.

I never told you how I speak to you.
When there's no one else around,
I call your name in the startled air,
     Wishing I could hold you...

I want to talk about my dreams with you,
     The happy dreams,
     Dreams of just being together.
No demands, no requests.

Not a day goes by that I don't think of you.
     Still.
Did you know that?
There's a place in my heart where you reside.

I want to tell you again that I love you.
     Yes, again. And again.
     If I outlived Methuselah,
I could not tell you enough times that I love you.

I want you to know that my love is unconditional.
You don't need to apologize for
Not calling, or writing,
Just like I don't need to thank you
     When you do call.
But I think we both know.

I think we both feel the impossibly close bond,
     We are so connected.
We understand each other,
We feel each other,
     We know each other intimately,
Even as we continue to learn about one another.

Even for this wordsmith,
     Words just aren't enough sometimes.
But sometimes words are unnecessary.

There is so much more.  :)
