Poem: "But, Seriously"

How long to live? When shall I die?
I'd like a career, but should I apply?
Tomorrow may bring, to my great surprise,
A blade 'twixt the ribs, a bullet 'tween the eyes.

Day to day's great, but I wish I could plan
Some kind of future, keep my life in hand.
I don't think my time is quite yet complete,
So I'll follow the rhythm, and speed up the beat.

Though I grow so weary, I must linger on,
'Til I've done it all, and my will has just gone...
